Air Springs Overview

Air springs (air bags) carry the load and absorb road shock in a truck's air-ride suspension, maintaining ride height between the axle and frame. A ruptured or leaking bag drops ride height, causes a harsh ride, and can bottom out the suspension under load. Van Horn Truck Parts carries rolling-lobe (reversible-sleeve), single- and double-convoluted, and cab/seat air springs cross-referenced to Firestone (W01-358-xxxx), Goodyear (1R-series), Contitech, and Automann part numbers.

To order the correct air spring, cross the number stamped on the bead plate of your old bag, then confirm design height, top-plate stud pattern, and bottom-plate mount. Double-convoluted bags deliver higher capacity in a shorter stroke; rolling-lobe bags suit longer travel. Replace in axle pairs.

Air Springs FAQ

How do I find the right air spring for my truck?

Cross-reference the number stamped on the bead plate of your old air spring to our listings — most of our air springs are cross-referenced to Firestone (W01-358-xxxx), Goodyear (1R-series), Contitech, and Automann numbers, so you can match the exact replacement. If the old plate is unreadable, confirm the design height, the top-plate stud pattern, and the bottom-plate mount to identify the correct bag. Have a competitor number? Enter it in search or call 248-651-2238 and we'll cross it to the air spring we stock.

What's the difference between rolling-lobe and convoluted air springs?

Rolling-lobe (reversible-sleeve) air springs have a smooth sleeve that rolls over a piston and are built for longer suspension travel — they're the most common type on tractor and trailer drive axles. Convoluted air springs have one or more lobes (single-, double-, or triple-convoluted) and provide higher load capacity in a shorter stroke, so they're used where space is tight and loads are heavy. Match the type your suspension was designed for — don't substitute one for the other — and confirm the mounting and design height before ordering.
